To encourage cleaner cities the Swachh Survekshan Survey measures cleanliness standards across the country. It releases an annual list of the top 10 cleanest cities in India. Swachh Survekshan Survey

Launched in 2016, the survey assesses cleanliness on three main factors - waste management policies, feedback from citizens, and certification. Information from independent assessors and municipal bodies is also factored in. The survey’s scope has widened from 73 cities in 2016 to over 4000 cities in 2023.
