Everything You Need to Know About the Namma Metro: Map, Timings, Routes, and Phases

Bangalore, often called the "Silicon Valley of India," is a bustling metropolis known for its IT industry, vibrant culture, and fast-paced urban life. With the city's growth came the need for an efficient and reliable mode of public transport, leading to the birth of the Namma Metro in Bangalore. Bangalore Metro, popularly known as Namma Metro, was launched in 2011 and has become an essential part of daily commutes for residents, helping them navigate the city's notorious traffic with ease.

Namma Metro Map 

Bangalore’s Namma Metro is covering both existing lines and under-construction extensions: 

Purple Line (East-West Corridor) 

Key Stations: Baiyappanahalli, Indiranagar, Halasuru, MG Road, Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Majestic (interchange with Green Line), Vijayanagar, Mysore Road. 

Under-construction Extensions

• From Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield.
• From Mysore Road to Kengeri and further to Challaghatta.

Green Line (North-South Corridor) 

Key Stations: Nagasandra, Yeshwanthpur, Mantri Square, Majestic (interchange with Purple Line), KR Market, Jayanagar, Yelachenahalli, Silk Institute. 

Under-construction Extensions

• From Nagasandra to Madavara.

Pink Line (Under-construction) 

Route: Gottigere to Nagawara (South to North), covering important stations like Dairy Circle, MG Road, Shivajinagar, and Cantonment. 

Purpose: It will connect southern Bengaluru to the northern parts of the city, including the future interchange with Green and Purple lines at Majestic. 

Blue Line (Phase 2A & 2B) (Under-construction) 

Route: Central Silk Board to KR Puram (Phase 2A) and further to Kempegowda International Airport (Phase 2B). 

Key Focus: Providing seamless connectivity from the IT hubs of Electronics City to the airport. 

Yellow Line (Proposed in Phase 3) 

Route: RV Road to Bommasandra, connecting the southern parts of the city, especially towards the IT and industrial hubs. 

When all extensions and new lines are operational, Namma Metro will cover 116.25 km, making it one of the largest metro systems in India. 

Timings of Namma Metro 

Namma Metro operates daily from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with the first trains departing at 5:00 AM and the last trains departing around 11:00 PM from terminal stations. During peak hours, trains typically run every 5-10 minutes, ensuring frequent and reliable service throughout the day. 

Current Routes and Future Expansions 

Bangalore’s Namma Metro currently has two operational lines: 

• Purple Line: Connecting Baiyappanahalli in the east to Kengeri in the west, passing through major hubs like MG Road and Majestic.
• Green Line: Running from Nagasandra in the north to Silk Institute in the south, passing through key areas like Yeshwanthpur and JP Nagar.

In the near future, as per the Bangalore metro routes, the project will be extended to locations such as Whitefield, Electronic City, and Hebbal, ensuring better coverage of Bangalore’s growing suburbs and tech hubs.

Phases of Namma Metro 

• Phase 1: This phase introduced the Purple and Green lines, covering 42.3 km across the city.
• Phase 2: Under construction, Phase 2 aims to expand the network by 72 km. This phase includes the extension of the Purple Line to Whitefield and Challaghatta and the Green Line to Anjanapura and Bommasandra. It also introduces two new lines: the Yellow Line (R.V. Road to Bommasandra) and the Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara).
• Phase 3: Proposed as the future phase, Phase 3 will add another 105 km to the metro network, connecting areas like Sarjapur, Yelahanka, and Hebbal and improving connectivity to the Kempegowda International Airport.
